The highly anticipated clash between Olympique Lyonnais (OL) and AJ Auxerre remains the only fixture not yet officially confirmed for the upcoming season. The French Football League (LFP) has outlined the precise conditions under which this match will be scheduled.
According to the LFP’s announcement, the definitive date for the OL versus Auxerre showdown will be decided on Wednesday, August 12, following the outcome of Olympique Lyonnais’ UEFA Champions League third qualifying round.
In the event OL successfully advances to the Champions League play-offs, the fixture against Auxerre will take place on Friday, September 4 at 7:00 PM local time. However, should Olympique Lyonnais be eliminated during the third qualifying round, the match will be rescheduled to Saturday, September 5 at 8:45 PM.
Regardless of the Champions League result, all eyes will be on Ligue 1+, which has secured exclusive broadcasting rights for the encounter.
It’s worth noting that Olympique Lyonnais had initially sought to postpone their opening Ligue 1 fixture to better prepare for potential Champions League playoff matches in late August. The LFP, however, denied this request, ensuring the original schedule remains intact.
