OGC Nice to play two matches behind closed doors after incidents at Allianz Riviera
The disciplinary committee of the French Football League has handed OGC Nice a double punishment of playing two matches behind closed doors and one suspended match at the Allianz Riviera. This follows the disturbances during last Sunday’s Ligue 1 match against FC Metz, which concluded the 2025-2026 season.
The club intends to appeal this decision, as it would force the team to play the crucial promotion playoff against AS Saint-Étienne in an empty stadium on May 29. Meanwhile, Nice will travel to Geoffroy-Guichard on May 26 without their suspended striker, Elye Wahi.
The disciplinary measures were imposed for multiple breaches of stadium regulations, including “the use and throwing of pyrotechnic devices, pitch invasion, and damage to the stadium following the final whistle.”
In addition to the sanctions against Nice, the disciplinary committee also ruled on other cases:
- Paris Saint-Germain: Closure of the Auteuil stand at Parc des Princes for one match, following “the use of pyrotechnics and visible expressions.” This penalty will apply during the first home match of the 2026-2027 Ligue 1 season.
- FC Nantes: Their case, involving a pitch invasion during their opening match against Toulouse, has been deferred for later judgment.
Additional sanctions
A one-match suspension for accumulating five yellow cards or due to the revocation of a suspended punishment:
- Benjamin André (Lille)
- Mahdi Camara (Stade Rennais FC)
- Christian Mawissa (AS Monaco)
- Elye Wahi (OGC Nice)
