N’Djamena’s extensive anti-crime sweep leads to 252 arrests
N’Djamena’s security forces recently conducted a sweeping anti-crime operation, resulting in the apprehension of 252 individuals and the confiscation of various illicit substances. This decisive action underscores the ongoing commitment to bolstering public safety and combating criminal networks within the Chadian capital.
A joint security commission spearheaded a major sweep this past Saturday, August 1, 2026, targeting several areas identified as high-crime zones across N’Djamena. The extensive intervention saw the deployment of numerous law enforcement agencies and specialized security units, including the Garde Nationale et Nomade du Tchad (GNNT), the National Gendarmerie, the National Police, and the Judicial Police. This coordinated effort led to the questioning and subsequent arrest of 252 individuals, alongside the seizure of numerous illegal items and substances.
Specific focus areas for the operation included Mandjakoli in the 5th arrondissement, along with Roma, Bildo, and Katanga in the 2nd arrondissement. Other key neighborhoods across the capital, such as Colombie, were also thoroughly combed during the crackdown.
Public Security Director Hachim Haroum Deby confirmed that the operation successfully apprehended both vendors and users of various illicit narcotics. Among the contraband confiscated were drugs commonly known as « Colorado » and « Bongo », in addition to quantities of adulterated alcohol.
The mission was executed under the direct oversight of the Director General of the National Gendarmerie, who also serves as the Deputy President of the Joint Control and Verification Commission. Further leadership was provided by the 1st Deputy Police General Controller and the 2nd Deputy Commander of the Garde Nationale et Nomade du Tchad (GNNT), both actively participating in the field.
Following the extensive intervention, a total of 252 arrested individuals were presented to the press. Security forces also displayed a significant haul of seized items, including various weapons, computers, mobile phones, and 25 motorcycles.
A comprehensive report detailing the operation’s outcomes was subsequently submitted to the Minister of Public Security and Immigration, General Ali Ahmat Aghabache.
