Nantes vs Toulouse match abandoned after fan invasion at Beaujoire stadium
Tensions erupt as Nantes supporters storm the pitch, forcing players to flee during a Ligue 1 dead rubber.
In a chaotic turn of events, the final Ligue 1 fixture between FC Nantes and Toulouse was abandoned on Sunday evening after supporters from the Loire Tribune invaded the Beaujoire stadium pitch. The match, which held little competitive significance—Nantes had already been relegated to Ligue 2, while Toulouse sat in 10th place with nothing left to play for—was halted at 0-0 following the 20-minute mark.
A group of several dozen individuals, clad in black and wearing club-colored hoods, breached security protocols by entering the field with smoke flares. This forced both teams to abandon the game and retreat to the locker rooms.
Coach Halilhodzic vents frustration
Nantes head coach Vahid Halilhodzic initially attempted to confront the invading fans on the pitch but was restrained by his staff. His pent-up frustration later spilled out in the locker room, captured on live television.
Though most of the intruders returned to the stands, the match remains suspended. A crisis meeting involving Ligue 1 officials and local authorities is currently underway to determine the next steps.
