His decision comes as a show of loyalty to Ousmane Sonko and the transformative vision he represents. In a heartfelt statement, Gueye explained the reasoning behind his choice, emphasizing a shared belief in sovereignty, systemic change, and the urgent need for genuine progress in Senegal.
« I resign from my position as Chairman of the Board of the FDCUIC, » declared Gueye. « We believed in sovereignty, in the fight against the system, and in the necessity of real change. This vision, championed by Pastef, is what we chose to support. That is why we accepted roles within the structure, upholding the values and principles we have always defended. »
Breaking ranks for a greater cause
The resignation follows a growing pattern of dissent within the party. Gueye’s statement highlighted the widening gap between the ideals that once inspired a nation and the current trajectory of the political landscape. « Today, Ousmane Sonko, who embodies this vision, no longer holds executive office. Meanwhile, the betrayals multiply, and the system we fought against is regaining its grip. I refuse to be complicit in this regression. We will continue the struggle for a Senegal that is just, sovereign, and true to the hopes of its people, » he affirmed.
The departure of Gueye is not an isolated incident. Days earlier, another prominent figure—the Youth Coordinator of the Patriotic Youth of Senegal in Touba—had also stepped down from a presidential advisory role, citing the same allegiance to Sonko’s principles. These decisions stand in stark contrast to the wave of defections sweeping toward the presidential camp, revealing a deepening divide within the ranks of Pastef between supporters of the current administration and those who remain loyal to the former Prime Minister.
