Malian authorities have announced a significant initiative, declaring that financial incentives will be granted to individuals who provide actionable intelligence leading to the apprehension or location of those implicated in attacks targeting citizens and infrastructure across the nation.

Officials specified that a substantial reward of two billion CFA francs (approximately 3.55 million US dollars) is being offered for information that helps pinpoint the whereabouts of Iyad Ag Gali, the prominent leader of the “Nasra al-Islam wal-Muslimin” group. Smaller, yet still considerable, bounties have also been designated for several other high-value targets currently sought by the government.

Among the individuals on the list of wanted persons is El Ghabas Ag Antala, recognized as a key figure within the Tuareg separatist movements operating in northern Mali.

This strategic move by the government in Bamako comes in the wake of a series of devastating attacks last April, which were claimed by groups affiliated with Al-Qaïda. These incidents, according to official reports, tragically resulted in the death of the Defense Minister and left several other officials injured. The ensuing clashes have spread across vast areas of the country’s northern desert region, fueling concerns that armed factions could achieve further territorial gains and destabilize Mali security.

The crucial decision was formalized in Bamako, bearing the signature of Major General Daoud Ali Mohamedine, Mali’s esteemed Minister of Security and Civil Protection, underscoring the nation’s commitment to enhancing its security posture in West Africa Mali.
