The head of state’s recent agenda was notably political. Following discussions with the African Union’s special envoy for the Gabon-Equatorial Guinea border dispute, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema also held significant meetings with Mohamed Idrissa Farah, the AU Commission’s special envoy for Madagascar, and Parfait Onanga-Anyanga, the UN Secretary-General’s special representative to the AU.

These crucial exchanges form part of Madagascar’s ongoing “Refoundation” process, specifically designed to draw insights from Gabon’s successful approach to managing its political transition. The Gabonese head of state presented to his guests the key commitments of Gabon’s transition, which are firmly rooted in inclusivity, adherence to pledges, the establishment of a national dialogue, and the unwavering preservation of peace, national unity, and social cohesion.

He underscored that these foundational elements paved the way for the organization of free, transparent, peaceful, credible, and widely accepted elections. This process ultimately led to a full return to constitutional order, the restoration of vital institutions, and renewed dignity for the Gabonese populace, all underpinned by extensive reforms. These reforms have positively impacted various societal sectors, bolstering electoral transparency, consolidating national sovereignty, and effectively rebuilding public trust in governmental bodies.

Both Mohamed Idrissa Farah and Parfait Onanga-Anyanga lauded Gabon’s successful transition, acknowledging it as a commendable model for numerous states across the African continent and beyond. It is noteworthy that the Republic of Madagascar is currently pursuing a similar trajectory, under the leadership of Colonel Michaël Randrianirina. During his recent visit to Gabon, Colonel Randrianirina had previously expressed admiration for Gabon’s achievements and particularly praised the high quality of its infrastructure, including the impressive Omar-Bongo-Ondimba Congress Palace.
