Luther Meka condemns Mamadou Mota’s ‘violent’ French on national television
André Luther Meka, spokesperson for Cameroon’s ruling party, has expressed outrage over Vice President Mamadou Mota’s command of French during a televised debate.
Cameroon’s ruling party communications chief, André Luther Meka, has slammed opposition figure Mamadou Mota for what he calls a ‘brutal assault’ on the French language during a recent television appearance.
Meka’s criticism came after Mota appeared on La Vérité en face, a popular debate show on Equinoxe TV, on June 28, 2026. In a scathing social media post, Meka described Mota’s use of French as a ‘massacre’ of the language, questioning his grasp of grammar, syntax, and conceptual understanding.
Writing on his official channels, Meka declared, ‘I watched with great interest the La Vérité en face debate on Equinoxe TV’s YouTube channel. I am appalled by Mamadou Mota’s violent assault on the French language and his insolence in handling morphosyntax and conceptual mastery. It was a full-scale destruction of the language of Ronsard and Lamartine—an absolute peak of mediocrity exposed on national television last Sunday. Good heavens!’
During the debate, Mota defended his party’s decision to reinstate Maurice Kamto as President of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (MRC), despite internal opposition led by figures such as Willy Mengue.
