The Taxawu Sénégal movement held its founding congress this Sunday, drawing key figures from the country’s opposition. Among the attendees were prominent leaders such as Aïssata Tall Sall, Bamba Fall, Oumar Sarr of the Front pour la Démocratie et la République (FDR), lawyer Elhadj Diouf, Alioune Ndoye of the Parti Socialiste, Abdoulaye Wilanne, and Doudou Wade. The event underscored a concerted effort to unite opposition forces against the current government.

The congress, held amid growing political mobilization, served as a platform for Khalifa Sall, president of Taxawu Sénégal, to deliver a sharp critique of the administration led by Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Ousmane Sonko. The former mayor of Dakar accused the government of neglecting the daily struggles of Senegalese citizens, framing his remarks as a direct challenge to their leadership.

Opposition vows to dismantle government alliances

In a fiery address, Khalifa Sall condemned what he described as a web of shadowy deals and self-serving maneuvers within the state apparatus. His choice of words—« Ils sont dans le Baara Yeego »—highlighted his belief that the regime prioritizes personal gain over public welfare. « We know they’re involved in these schemes, but we will remove them from power, because the Senegalese people have suffered enough, » he declared, signaling a bold stance for the opposition.

The leader of Taxawu Sénégal outlined plans for a robust political response, emphasizing unity among opposition factions. « The people will face a united and vigilant opposition that will ensure this government is ousted, » he asserted. His remarks reflect a strategic push to consolidate opposition efforts ahead of upcoming elections, positioning Taxawu Sénégal as a formidable force in the political landscape.
