Dakar — The Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Dr Abdourahmane Diouf, a founding member of the KIIRAAY – Les Patriotes Républicains party, recently took part in a Radio Sénégal Internationale broadcast where he addressed the deepening rift within the Pastef movement. His remarks shed light on the growing tensions between President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and party leader Ousmane Sonko, revealing stark contradictions within the party’s ranks.
A Party Divided by Contradictions
Dr Diouf did not mince his words when describing Pastef as a party riddled with inconsistencies. He emphasized that while the president has remained steadfast in honoring his commitments, the party and its leadership have instead chosen to undermine his authority. “The president’s dedication to his promises has never wavered, yet it is Pastef and its leader who have isolated and betrayed him, rendering his mandate ungovernable,” he declared. The minister went further, accusing Ousmane Sonko of orchestrating this betrayal, leaving the president with no choice but to act decisively in response to the disloyalty.
Government Departures and Political Consequences
The minister also addressed the recent exodus of former government members, stressing that their departure was voluntary and not imposed. He pointed out that their exit has deprived the president of the parliamentary majority needed to implement his policies and vision. “They chose to leave, yet they continue to voice criticisms,” Dr Diouf noted, urging them to acknowledge their own role in the current political impasse.

Looking ahead, Dr Abdourahmane Diouf expressed his strong conviction in President Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s ability to complete his term effectively. This belief, he explained, was a key factor in his decision to establish a new political party.
