Gabon’s President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema arrived in Banjul, the capital of Gambia, yesterday for a four-day working and friendship visit. He was welcomed by his counterpart, Adama Barrow, with whom he held a private meeting. This was followed by bilateral talks at the official residence, where they reviewed existing cooperation areas and explored fresh opportunities for collaboration between the two nations. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the Gabon-Gambia bilateral relationship and advancing sustainable economic growth.
A second meeting is scheduled for today with the Gambian head of state.
Strengthening ties between Libreville and Banjul
The visit, aimed at deepening the Libreville-Banjul axis, will also include an inspection of key government infrastructure and historical sites. President Oligui Nguema is expected to visit the National Food and Drug Quality Control Laboratory in Brusubi, the University of Gambia, the National Emergency Treatment Centre in Farato, and the renowned Kachikally Crocodile Pool in Bakau.

As part of the official program, President Barrow will host a state banquet in honor of his distinguished guest.
Gambia’s economic backbone
Gambia’s economy thrives on tourism, agriculture, and re-export trade. Recent data indicates a real GDP growth of 6.1%, driven largely by a robust services sector.
This state visit aligns with President Oligui Nguema’s ongoing continental tour, which includes several West African nations.
