Gabon’s President, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, has announced his upcoming official visit to France on July 20, 2026, during an interview.

While specific details remain undisclosed, this trip is expected to deepen the ongoing dialogue between Libreville and Paris, following the end of Gabon’s political transition. The discussions will likely cover critical areas such as economic cooperation, environmental initiatives, Congo Basin forest conservation, vocational training, and security challenges.

Since assuming office in August 2023, President Oligui Nguema has made one prior official trip to France. From May 27 to 31, 2024, he engaged in high-level meetings, including an audience with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace. That visit concluded with renewed commitments across economic, political, trade, and environmental sectors, with a strong focus on biodiversity preservation and climate action.

The 2024 visit also featured a major Franco-Gabonese economic forum in Paris, drawing nearly 600 business leaders, alongside interactions with the Gabonese diaspora. The upcoming July 2026 visit marks the second official state visit by the Gabonese leader to France.

Macron’s visit to Libreville in late 2025

For its part, France has maintained close ties with Gabon, including two visits by President Macron since 2017 for the One Forest Summit, an environmental conference co-hosted by both nations.

In late November 2025, Emmanuel Macron returned to Gabon, landing at Léon-Mba International Airport where he was received by President Oligui Nguema. The visit underscored France’s support for Gabon’s transition to a renewed political framework, emphasizing a partnership of equals and equal footing in future collaborations.

The November 2025 meetings led to concrete commitments, including enhanced military training for Gabonese forces, the establishment of a natural resource protection academy, and French-backed upgrades to the Transgabonais railway.

With this new visit scheduled for July 2026, Gabon reaffirms its intention to foster a balanced and strategic partnership with France. This upcoming trip follows the May 2024 Paris visit and the November 2025 Libreville summit, signaling an accelerating diplomatic calendar between the two nations.
