In a strategic effort to overhaul its national transit systems, Gabon is actively seeking to replicate Senegal’s successful infrastructure models. During an official working visit to Dakar, the Gabonese Minister of State for Transport, Merchant Marine, and Logistics, Ulrich Manfoumbi Manfoumbi, held high-level discussions with his Senegalese counterpart, Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye. The meetings focused on upgrading transport infrastructure, boosting bilateral partnerships, and facilitating a seamless transfer of expertise between Libreville and Dakar.
A strategic partnership for infrastructure development
Gabon aims to restructure its transport networks by studying Senegal’s proven systems. “We had the opportunity to exchange ideas with his teams on various issues related to land and air transport,” Ulrich Manfoumbi Manfoumbi stated. Senegal’s achievements—particularly the management of Blaise Diagne International Airport and the expansion of its road and railway networks—serve as an exemplary benchmark for the Gabonese authorities.
Aligning safety standards and regulatory frameworks
The bilateral meetings also focused on harmonizing regulatory and safety frameworks to meet international benchmarks while maintaining smooth operations. Both nations explored sharing expertise in technical management, airport security, and training programs for transport sector professionals.
By leveraging Senegal’s achievements, Gabon aims to accelerate the upgrade of its own systems, streamline domestic traffic management, and reorganize public transit. This initiative is designed to revitalize a sector that is in clear need of structural modernization. According to the Gabonese minister, this collaborative effort also involves planning for logistical hubs and multimodal transport systems. The goal is to establish strong synergy between road networks and air connections, helping to open up remote regions and facilitate the movement of both passengers and cargo, with Libreville looking to Dakar as a primary model.
