Gabon: information site 241 faces suspension from high communication authority

Gabon: suspension du site d’information 241 par la Haute Autorité de la communication

The Haute Autorité de la communication (HAC) in Gabon has taken decisive action, suspending the Info 241 website. This measure was prompted by an article featuring grave allegations against the nation’s leader.

The article, provocatively titled « Lanlaire balances on Oligui: 150 000 € offered, compromising videos, bisexualité, 20 milliards dilapidés… », detailed various claims attributed to Anges Landry Mbeng, a Gabonese influencer known as Lanlaire, who resides in France.

The HAC asserts that Info 241’s publication contained « injurious, scandalous, and exceptionally virulent remarks concerning the President of the Republic and his family ». The regulatory body emphasized that the media outlet had committed serious legal infractions, leading to its indefinite suspension.

In response, Info 241 issued a statement, accusing the HAC of acting erroneously and making an « impulsive decision » without thoroughly reviewing the article in question.

This incident has ignited widespread discussion across Gabon. Numerous supporters of President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema have publicly called for legal proceedings against Lanlaire and any individuals deemed his accomplices in this matter.
