Starting this Saturday, August 15, 2026, Senegal will see a sharp increase in fuel prices. The cost of super gasoline will rise by 70 F CFA per liter, while diesel will jump by 75 F CFA, reaching 990 F CFA and 755 F CFA respectively.
The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum attributes this adjustment to the persistent surge in global oil prices, driven by ongoing tensions in the Middle East. Since July 13 alone, diesel has surged by 26.6% and super gasoline by 12% on international markets. Since the conflict began, these increases have soared to 69% for diesel and 61% for super gasoline.
To manage the financial strain, the Senegalese government—which has already allocated over 245 billion F CFA in fuel subsidies since January—has decided to revert to pricing levels before the December 6, 2025 reduction. The adjustment ensures that subsidies do not balloon further, with an estimated 47.27 billion F CFA in additional costs projected for the period between August 15 and September 12, 2026.
