FC Nantes condemns pitch invasion after chaotic Ligue 1 finale

In a statement released the day after the abandoned Ligue 1 match against Toulouse, following a pitch invasion by its supporters, FC Nantes strongly condemned the incidents surrounding the game.
FC Nantes has expressed its outrage following the chaotic events at the Beaujoire stadium. As the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) investigates the abandoned match and prepares to rule on Wednesday, May 27, the club issued a firm statement Monday afternoon.
« While FC Nantes understands the distress and frustration stemming from an exceptionally difficult season and relegation to Ligue 2, the club’s values, history, and identity cannot be undermined by such acts and behavior, » the statement read. « Anger and disappointment cannot justify the presence of masked individuals storming the pitch, creating an atmosphere of intimidation and tension. A football stadium must remain a popular, festive, and safe space for everyone. »
Nantes calls for unity, calm, and respect
The club also extended its gratitude to the « many supporters » who remained calm despite the circumstances, as well as the security teams and authorities who ensured safety throughout the evening. FC Nantes added that it would « fully cooperate with authorities, the LFP, and state services to shed light on the events and establish accountability. » The club concluded by urging « unity, calm, and respect » to ensure the best possible preparation for the upcoming season.
