The official declaration of Bundibugyo Ebola virus disease on 15 May in eastern DRC triggered the rapid deployment of response mechanisms across the affected health zones in Ituri, North Kivu and South Kivu. As a result, 19 patients have now fully recovered and left the Ebola treatment centre, according to figures from the national public health institute.

By 7 June, health data showed 550 confirmed cases including 101 deaths across all affected health zones. At present, 309 patients remain in isolation for care.

Ituri province continues to be the epicentre of the epidemic. Of the 25 affected health zones, 17 are located in this province, nearly half of Ituri’s 36 health zones.

The affected zones include Aru, Aungba, Bambu, Bunia, Damas, Gety, Kilo, Komanda, Lita, Logo, Mambasa, Mangala, Mongbwalu, Nizi, Nyankunde, Rimba and Rwampara.
