Le coalition Diomaye Président has strongly criticized the recent remarks made by Ousmane Sonko during the inauguration of the Pastef headquarters in Mbacké. Coalition leaders describe the statements as disrespectful toward the Head of State and a departure from the expected standards of responsibility expected from a high-ranking institutional figure.

Opposition to inflammatory discourse

Bassirou Dieng, a prominent member of the coalition, emphasized that such rhetoric is incompatible with the principles of a rule of law, democracy, and a republic. « In a functioning democracy or republic, it is unacceptable for a National Assembly president to make derogatory remarks about the Head of State, » he stated during an interview.

He further noted that Ousmane Sonko’s statements have sparked widespread reactions across social media and traditional news outlets. « Since his address yesterday in Mbacké, the public reaction has been overwhelmingly negative. Nearly everyone condemns these scandalous remarks, » Dieng added, urging Sonko to exercise restraint.

Firm response to institutional attacks

The coalition has warned that it will no longer tolerate what it considers repeated attacks on state institutions. « The Diomaye Président coalition will take a firm stance. Going forward, we will not tolerate any further disrespectful comments from Ousmane Sonko, whether directed at the President of the Republic or other state authorities, » Dieng declared.

This response follows Sonko’s public remarks in Mbacké, which have intensified political debates and drawn sharp criticism from the presidential majority.
