Tribunal : Nouveau renvoi du procès opposant Ousmane Sonko à Mame Mbaye Niang

The civil proceedings pitting former minister Mame Mbaye Niang against Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, concerning the ownership of a villa within Dakar’s prestigious Cité Keur Gorgui, have been rescheduled. The third civil chamber of the Dakar tribunal announced the adjournment of the case until July 22, 2026. Mame Mbaye Niang, the former minister, initiated this civil action against the PASTEF leader, seeking the annulment of what he alleges to be a fraudulent transfer of his 264 m2 villa, identified as lot n°R/17, in Cité Keur Gorgui. This matter was initially brought before the court on Wednesday, June 10. The former Tourism Minister’s primary objective is to have the property re-registered under his name, enabling him to reclaim the 200 million CFA francs in damages and interest previously awarded to him by the Supreme Court following a definitive ruling in a criminal procedure.

Attorneys representing Mame Mbaye Niang contend that the transfer of the villa’s leasehold rights to the family of the current Prime Minister represents « a deliberate strategy designed to orchestrate Ousmane Sonko’s insolvency and shield the asset from any potential seizure. » This particular legal battle, which had already seen a prior postponement, is intended to allow the civil judge to thoroughly examine the core merits of the dispute. This will occur once Mame Mbaye Niang’s legal counsel has submitted their counter-arguments in response to the written submissions provided by Ousmane Sonko’s defense team.
