The Côte d’Ivoire is solidifying its role on the global diplomatic stage by actively engaging in the second session of the International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) at the United Nations headquarters in New York. Through this strategic participation, the country reaffirms its commitment to a migration governance model rooted in cooperation, human dignity, and sustainable development.
This international gathering, focused on monitoring the implementation of the 2018 Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration adopted in Marrakech, brings together nations to address the complexities of global human mobility.
Dr. Hinin Moustapha, Director General of the National Population Office (ONP), represented the Côte d’Ivoire’s minister of Planning and Development, Dr. Souleymane Diarrassouba, in high-level discussions centered on experience-sharing and commitments from signatory states of the Global Compact.
In his address, Dr. Hinin Moustapha highlighted Côte d’Ivoire’s advancements across critical migration management sectors. Key achievements include strengthening migration data systems, reducing vulnerabilities, combating discrimination, and fostering international cooperation.
The Ivorian representative underscored the importance of data-driven strategies to better understand migration dynamics. He noted that Côte d’Ivoire has undergone a structural transformation in its data collection and analysis systems, aiming to generate reliable, up-to-date, and disaggregated information to guide effective public policies.
This vision materialized in 2025 with a comprehensive national migration survey, positioning Côte d’Ivoire as a leader in reliable migration statistics and evidence-based governance across Africa.
Beyond data, Côte d’Ivoire prioritizes migrant protection through integrated support systems and inclusive social policies. This approach ensures better assistance for migrants while minimizing vulnerabilities.
The fight against discrimination remains a cornerstone of Ivorian efforts. Authorities have intensified awareness campaigns and reinforced institutional frameworks to promote a more inclusive society that upholds human rights.
During the forum, the Ivorian delegation also championed international cooperation grounded in solidarity and shared responsibility. For Abidjan, addressing migration challenges requires concerted action among countries of origin, transit, and destination.
