A newly issued directive from the Ministry of Environment, Fisheries, and Sustainable Development has put an immediate end to the wearing of military uniforms, insignia, and other armed forces-related gear by water and forestry agents in Chad.
Released on July 6, 2026, the circular was signed by the ministry’s Secretary-General, Koularambaye Koundja Julien, following repeated reports of civilian and military personnel in the water and forestry sector improperly adopting the insignia and attire reserved for the Armée Nationale Tchadienne (ANT).
strict enforcement and disciplinary consequences
Agents found in violation of this ban will face strict disciplinary actions, as outlined in the directive. Central and regional service heads have been instructed to enforce the measure without delay. The policy takes immediate effect, signaling a clear shift in protocol to prevent unauthorized use of military-grade equipment among non-combatant staff.
