As part of the ongoing efforts to modernize Bénin’s national road network, Georges Alé, the Minister of Living Environment and Transport, recently conducted a comprehensive inspection tour. His focus during the visit to three crucial construction sites centered on stringent technical specifications, environmental protection, public health considerations, and strict adherence to contractual timelines for these vital infrastructure projects.
The ministerial delegation’s initial stop was at the Djonou bridge, located within the Abomey-Calavi commune. Significant progress was noted here, with all dredging operations now successfully concluded. This critical work has effectively cleared the waterway, facilitating improved rainwater drainage and bolstering the overall safety and structural integrity of the bridge.
Minister Alé then proceeded to the Missessinto-Allada (RNIE2) section, where a 2×2 lane expansion project is actively underway, managed by the SCET Tunisie / BECI BTP consortium. While commending the satisfactory momentum and advancement of the construction, Georges Alé underscored the imperative of meticulously following the agreed-upon project schedule. His aim is to swiftly deliver a modern and secure thoroughfare to Bénin’s road users.
The inspection concluded at the Allada roundabout and the adjacent retention basins. Demonstrating a keen interest in sanitation, the Minister instructed the technical teams to establish close collaboration with the Ministry of Health. This proactive measure aims to anticipate and mitigate any potential public health risks that might arise from stagnant water in the area.
Concluding his inspection, Georges Alé reiterated the government’s ambitious vision for Bénin’s infrastructure development, stating, « We are building for future generations. This commitment demands that safety, public health, and quality are paramount in every single component we construct. »
