Algeria’s Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellaoui, recently concluded a significant two-day working visit to the Republic of Chad. Leading a high-level delegation, Minister Djellaoui’s mission was to explore concrete strategies for implementing joint infrastructure initiatives, with a particular focus on the ambitious Trans-Saharan Road project.
This visit underscores the directives issued by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and builds upon earlier discussions held during the Chadian President’s recent visit to Algeria. It clearly demonstrates a mutual commitment to fostering a tangible and practical dimension in bilateral cooperation, aimed at driving development in both nations.
Upon his arrival at N’Djamena’s Hassan Djamous International Airport, Minister Djellaoui, accompanied by Abed Hallouz, the Director General of the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development (AICA), received a warm welcome. Chadian Minister of Infrastructure, Disenclavement, and Road Maintenance, Amir Idriss Kourda, along with several other Chadian officials, greeted the Algerian delegation.
The Algerian contingent comprised over 14 seasoned experts and engineers, marking their second visit to Chad to continue the specialized assessments initiated during their previous trip. Key figures in the delegation included the CEOs of “Cosider travaux publics” and the National Public Works Company (SNTP), as well as the Director General of the National Technical Control Body for Public Works (CTTP).
The public works sector stands as a cornerstone of cooperation between Algeria and Chad, recognized as a pivotal catalyst for economic integration. Algeria maintains a strong interest in the Trans-Saharan Road, viewing it as a vital strategic artery that will durably interconnect the economies of both countries and the broader region. Consequently, the visit primarily concentrated on the practical implementation of two crucial sections of the Trans-Saharan Road within Chadian territory, which are considered essential links in this continental thoroughfare.
Leveraging its extensive experience in constructing major road networks, particularly in challenging Saharan environments, Algeria is offering its technical prowess and expertise to this monumental project. This collaborative effort is anticipated to bring about a profound transformation and significantly boost regional trade and exchanges.
The discussions during the visit are expected to yield concrete outcomes, thereby solidifying Algerian-Chadian cooperation in the vital areas of infrastructure and public works.
