The meeting, held in Laayoune at the residence of Mohamed Lemine Nafa, a member of the organization’s Permanent Political Commission, was initiated by the U.S. diplomatic mission and brought together several leaders and cadres of the movement.

During the session, representatives of Sahrawis for Peace outlined key milestones in their organizational journey over the past six years, as well as the foundations of their vision for resolving the conflict. They also addressed questions from the American delegation regarding the current status of the Western Sahara dossier.

The movement’s leaders emphasized the need to integrate Sahrawis for Peace into the United Nations-backed negotiation process, describing it as a legitimate framework that brings together Sahrawi voices committed to a political and peaceful resolution. They stressed that any negotiation process aimed at achieving a sustainable solution must include all representations and stakeholders of Sahrawi society.

The U.S. political counselor shared Washington’s strong commitment to resolving the conflict and ending the current deadlock. He underscored that the United States opposes perpetuating the status quo and reaffirmed its support for initiatives aimed at revitalizing the political process toward a definitive solution.

The American diplomat praised the work of Sahrawis for Peace, describing their movement as an active and committed Sahrawi voice in pursuit of negotiated solutions. He also assured that the United States places high importance on supporting Sahrawi voices that advocate for an agreement ensuring regional stability and security, thereby unlocking diplomatic pathways and overcoming the confrontational dynamics that have hindered solutions in recent years.

This meeting follows the ongoing engagement between the United States and Sahrawis for Peace, after a delegation of the movement met in New York with the permanent ambassadors of the U.S., France, and the U.K. to the United Nations.

The gathering took place ahead of the United Nations Security Council session to review the implementation of Resolution 2797, which has garnered broad international consensus in favor of promoting a political and peaceful solution to the Western Sahara question.
