Landmark declaration on Western Sahara
During the 27th anniversary of Morocco’s Throne Day celebrations, King Mohammed VI received a historic message from President Donald Trump. In his correspondence, the American leader reaffirmed Washington’s unwavering support for Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara and endorsed the kingdom’s autonomy plan as the cornerstone for a lasting resolution.
In his written address, President Trump emphasized that «the United States unequivocally recognizes Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara and endorses its autonomy initiative as a credible, realistic framework for a just and sustainable solution.»
He warned that alternative approaches would only perpetuate the existing stalemate, calling the status quo «unacceptable.» Trump stressed the urgency of resolving the dispute, stating, «This disagreement must end now, and the United States will continue to drive progress toward this goal.»
Strengthening ties and regional stability
The American president also celebrated 250 years of bilateral relations between the two nations, describing the partnership as «built on mutual trust and respect.» He praised King Mohammed VI’s «wise leadership,» highlighting his role as a stabilizing force in North Africa and the broader region.
Trump commended Morocco’s contributions to regional peace, countering extremism, and safeguarding shared security interests, particularly through the Abraham Accords. Additionally, he announced plans to deepen cooperation «to strengthen security across the Sahel region.»
Economic partnership for a shared future
The U.S. leader outlined a vision for expanded economic collaboration, directing his administration to prioritize initiatives that foster social and economic development alongside Morocco—including within Western Sahara. He identified key sectors for growth, such as technology, innovation, energy, artificial intelligence, critical minerals, and defense.
Concluding his message, Trump expressed optimism for the future, declaring, «Together, we will forge a new era, one guided by the shared interests of our peoples.»
