A delegation from the UNESCO Mali office, led by Acting Head and Representative Mr. Ali-Mohamed Sinane, participated in the official launch ceremony of the 32nd national reforestation campaign on Saturday, 26 July 2026 in Bamako. The event took place at the Palais des Pionniers and was presided over by General of Division Abdoulaye Maïga, Prime Minister and Head of Government, representing the President of the Transition and Head of State.

The ceremony brought together government officials, national institution representatives, technical and financial partners, civil society organizations, private sector actors, and women’s and youth associations. It also mobilized numerous stakeholders dedicated to environmental protection, sustainable natural resource management, and combating climate change impacts.

With the theme “Youth at the heart of environmental citizenship for a greener, more resilient Mali“, this 32nd edition reinforces national efforts to restore ecosystems, fight desertification, and preserve natural resources. A major focus is placed on citizen mobilization, particularly among young people, as key players in ecological transition. The campaign aims to plant 21 million trees across the country during the rainy season, contributing to the creation of a greener and more resilient Mali.

By joining this initiative, UNESCO reaffirms its commitment to supporting Mali through community awareness, capacity building for local actors, and promoting innovative solutions to strengthen ecosystem resilience against environmental and climate challenges.
