The 85th session of the Executive Committee of the African Parliamentary Union (APU) provided a platform for critical discussions on the continent’s future. On June 4, Ousmane Sonko, President of Senegal’s National Assembly, held a pivotal meeting with Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde Kyenge, Chair of the APU Executive Committee.

During their discussions, Sonko emphasized the urgent need to overhaul the APU’s operational framework. He proposed sweeping reforms aimed at enhancing the organization’s efficiency and expanding its role in shaping Africa’s political and institutional landscape.

The Senegalese leader highlighted the importance of aligning APU recommendations with decisions made by the African Union. A stronger synergy between these institutions, he argued, would streamline policy coherence and amplify the continent’s developmental impact.

This high-level engagement reflects a broader commitment among African leaders to strengthen parliamentary cooperation and foster more effective continental governance, ensuring policies better serve the needs of African citizens.
