The initial three Senegalese football enthusiasts, who had been held in Morocco following disturbances during the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN), touched down this Thursday at Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD) in Diass. Abdoulaye Dieng, Ibrahima Diop, and Aziz Wade disembarked from a Royal Air Maroc flight at 6:25 PM, met by an enthusiastic crowd offering a warm welcome. These three individuals were among a group of 18 supporters apprehended during the CAN final match between Senegal and Morocco. They faced conviction by the Rabat Court of Appeal on charges of “hooliganism,” which included disrupting public order, throwing objects, damaging sports facilities, and assaulting law enforcement personnel.
Having completed their three-month prison sentences, these supporters gained their freedom on April 18th. For the remaining 15 individuals still in Morocco, their appeal-confirmed sentences range from six months to one year of incarceration. Their repatriation to Senegal is anticipated to occur in stages as each of their respective sentences concludes.
