SENEGAL – The Prime Minister has issued a strong call to action for ministers overseeing flood prevention to finalize critical measures ahead of the upcoming rainy season.

During Wednesday’s Council of Ministers meeting, Ousmane Sonko emphasized the need for immediate implementation of key strategies, including updating and validating municipal emergency plans, ensuring early warning systems and communication channels are fully operational, and positioning emergency response resources strategically.

The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of conducting a cross-ministerial simulation exercise before June 15, 2026, to test coordination and response readiness. His directives follow a review of ongoing preparatory efforts by the Ministry of Hydraulics and Sanitation and other state agencies, which have already begun clearing drainage networks, inspecting water infrastructure, and drafting emergency response protocols.

The announcement underscores the government’s commitment to a unified approach, with the Ministry of Hydraulics and Sanitation leading coordination efforts, supported by the Ministry of the Interior for civil protection and crisis management.
