Senegal parliament elects Ousmane Sonko as speaker after dismissal
Just four days after being removed from his role as Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko was elected President of Senegal’s National Assembly this Tuesday.
As leader of the ruling Patriotic Africans of Senegal for Work, Ethics, and Fraternity (PASTEF) party, Sonko takes over from El Malick Ndiaye, who resigned last Sunday.
On Monday evening, President Faye appointed Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô as the new Prime Minister. Lô previously served as Minister in charge of Monitoring, Guidance, and Evaluation of the ‘National Senegal 2050 Transformation Program’ at the presidency, and later as Secretary-General of the Government of Senegal.
