Patrice Talon lors du Conseil extraordinaire des ministres à Cotonou, le 8 décembre 2025.

On Saturday, December 13, the streets of Cotonou in Bénin were filled with hundreds of demonstrators. This crowd, largely composed of the nation’s youth, gathered to voice their strong opposition to the attempted coup that had occurred just six days earlier. On the morning of December 7, a group of mutinous soldiers had appeared on national television, claiming they had successfully overthrown President Patrice Talon.

However, the insurrection was short-lived. As the day progressed, the Bénin military managed to dismantle the putsch and restore order, operating with the support of key internal and external elements. Patrice Talon continues to be viewed as a truly unique figure in Africa, often described as a “political UFO” due to his unconventional approach to leadership and governance on the continent.
