On Saturday, Ousmane Sonko addressed a substantial gathering of activists in Linguère, all present to back the Pastef leader. In a forceful address, he unequivocally denounced the sitting President of the Republic, who had removed him from his position as Prime Minister last May.

Before an enthusiastic audience, Ousmane Sonko articulated a profound disconnect between the foundational ideals that propelled the movement to power and the current actions of the executive. In a particularly resonant moment, he emphatically stated that the Senegalese people did not vote, fight, or sacrifice lives for the present situation. He stressed that individuals did not endure imprisonment for such an outcome. The Senegalese fought for systemic change, yet, in his view, the very same system now occupies the presidential palace and continues to operate.
This declaration signals a clear and established rift between the Pastef leader and the individual currently holding the highest office. It directly targets the current governance, which Sonko perceives as out of step with the battles fought during their time in opposition. Demonstrating a clear resolve to challenge the president of Kiiraay – Les Patriotes républicains in upcoming elections, Ousmane Sonko expressed unwavering confidence in a future victory, regardless of any opposing political maneuvers.
“That is why I believe he can align with all the mayors or form alliances with any parties he wishes. My appeal is solely to the people. Because in a democracy, there is only one truth, and that is the people,” he proclaimed, addressing not only his militants but also all Senegalese citizens.
