In a heartfelt tribute, Ousmane Sonko, leader of Senegal’s Pastef party, expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Serigne Cheikh Saliou Mbacké, a revered spiritual figure who played a pivotal role in his life.
The political figure described the late marabout as more than just a mentor—calling him a father, a trusted friend, and a guiding light during life’s most challenging moments. Serigne Cheikh Saliou’s influence extended beyond personal support, as he provided counsel, prayers, and spiritual guidance through his network of disciples across multiple Daara communities.
« To Allah we belong, and to Him we shall return, » Sonko reflected, acknowledging the profound void left by the spiritual leader’s departure. « A father, a friend, a confidant, and a guide has left us. »
The Pastef president highlighted Serigne Cheikh Saliou’s unwavering presence during tough times, emphasizing the marabout’s compassion, wisdom, and the collective prayers of his followers. He lauded the late spiritual guide as a champion of both faith and perseverance, bestowing upon him the esteemed title of Maître de Khelcom.
Sonko concluded his tribute with a solemn prayer, seeking divine mercy for the departed soul. « May Allah, in His infinite mercy, embrace him and grant him eternal peace in Paradise, » he appealed.
