Ousmane Sonko addresses his 2029 presidential ambitions

During a recent interview, Ousmane Sonko, leader of the Pastef party and President of the National Assembly, provided clarity on his stance regarding the 2029 presidential election.
When questioned about whether he would run in the 2029 presidential race unconditionally, Sonko adopted a cautious approach. He emphasized that discussions about his candidacy remain premature. “There is a lot of speculation surrounding a potential 2029 candidacy for Ousmane Sonko, but I prefer to wait for the right moment,” he stated. “My party will decide its candidate, and we are not there yet.”
Addressing the possibility of President Diomaye Faye seeking re-election in 2029, Sonko maintained a neutral stance. “He has his own path to follow, and I have mine,” he remarked. “I won’t speculate on whether the current president will run again.”
