Norwegian development minister’s official visit to Senegal

The Norwegian Minister of International Development, His Excellency Mr. Åsmund Aukrust, conducted an official visit to Dakar from May 3 to 4, 2026.

The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Dakar welcomed His Excellency Mr. Åsmund Aukrust, Norway’s Minister of International Development, for an official two-day visit to Senegal on May 3-4, 2026. This visit underscores a pivotal moment in deepening bilateral relations and strengthening Norway’s engagement in the region.

During his stay, the Minister held high-level discussions with Senegal’s Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs, and Senegalese Abroad, Mr. Cheikh Niang, the Minister of Environment and Ecological Transition, Mr. Elhadj Abdourahmane Diouf, the Minister of Economy, Planning, and Cooperation, Mr. Abdourahmane Sarr, as well as the President of the National Assembly, Mr. El Malick Ndiaye.

The meetings focused on critical regional challenges, including the Sahel crisis and security-development dynamics. Global issues and multilateral initiatives, such as the UN75+ agenda, were also addressed. The visit highlighted shared commitments to advancing cooperation across multiple sectors.

Norway reaffirmed its appreciation for Senegal’s role as a stable democracy and key partner in fostering peace and regional collaboration.
