Authorities in Borno State, located in Nigeria’s troubled northeast, have confirmed that nearly 10,000 individuals who once fought for Boko Haram have successfully re-entered civilian life. This achievement is part of a comprehensive government-backed initiative focused on reintegration and deradicalization, strategically designed to encourage desertions from various insurgent factions.

The announcement coincided with a graduation ceremony held in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, where 720 former combatants completed their reinsertion program. State officials were present to mark this significant milestone.

With this latest group, the total count of former insurgents who have been successfully reintegrated into their local communities now stands at 9,680, according to Borno State authorities.

This particular program forms a crucial component of Nigeria’s broader strategy aimed at diminishing the influence of jihadist organizations operating across the Lake Chad region. Its core objective is to persuade fighters to lay down their arms and transition back to peaceful civilian lives.
