Morocco joins second Mombasa conference on peace-security-development nexus

Libya, Mohamed Arrouchi, Libyan crisis

Morocco’s delegation, led by Ambassador Mohamed Arrouchi, is actively participating in the second Political Conference on the Peace-Security-Development Nexus in Mombasa, Kenya, on July 11–12.

This high-level gathering builds on the outcomes of the inaugural conference held in Tangier in October 2022, which culminated in the Tangier Declaration. That landmark agreement established a unified African vision emphasizing the interplay between public policy coordination, strengthened partnerships, and targeted initiatives aimed at fostering lasting peace, security, and sustainable development across the continent.

The Tangier Process has since emerged as Africa’s leading platform for dialogue on the interconnected challenges of peace, security, and development. It brings together key continental and international stakeholders, including the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the United Nations Development Programme, the African Export-Import Bank, and the African Development Bank.

The primary objective of this second conference is to assess the progress made in implementing the Tangier Declaration and to identify actionable strategies to deepen the integration of peace, security, and development across the continent.

The discussions will unfold across five thematic panels, covering:

  • Implementation of the Tangier Declaration through targeted thematic projects
  • The role of artificial intelligence and youth-led innovations in advancing the nexus
  • The relationship between security expenditures and sustainable development
  • Mobilizing financing for Nexus-aligned initiatives
  • Key lessons from the African Union’s support for complex political transitions

During the conference, Morocco’s delegation will highlight the Kingdom’s commitment to an integrated approach to peace, security, and development. This vision prioritizes strengthened partnerships and homegrown solutions tailored to Africa’s unique priorities and realities.
