In Rabat, a landmark ceremony marked the strengthening of Morocco’s security cooperation with Spain. Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director-General of the National Security Directorate (DGSN) and Territorial Surveillance (DGST), welcomed a high-ranking delegation from Spain’s Civil Guard, led by Major General Luis Peláez Piñeiro, Director of Intelligence.

This official visit underscores the deepening partnership between Moroccan and Spanish security agencies, particularly in the fight against terrorism and cross-border crime, setting a benchmark for international collaboration.

As part of the event, several senior officials from the DGSN and DGST were awarded Spain’s highest honors. These distinctions, issued by the Spanish Interior Minister, recognize their pivotal role in enhancing operational cooperation and technical assistance between the two nations.

A statement from the DGSN highlighted these awards as a testament to the strategic partnership between Morocco and Spain. It emphasized Madrid’s acknowledgment of the Moroccan security forces’ expertise in addressing shared threats.

During the ceremony, Major General Peláez Piñeiro described Morocco as an ‘indispensable strategic partner’ in combating terrorism and organized crime. He praised the advanced bilateral security cooperation amid rising regional and global challenges.

These recognitions follow previous accolades bestowed upon Abdellatif Hammouchi. In November 2025, he received Spain’s highest honor, the Grand Cross of the Civil Guard Merit, and in 2014, he was awarded the Police Merit Cross with Red Distinction for his exemplary contributions to Morocco-Spain security collaboration.
