Moroccan Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Kayouh, engaged in pivotal discussions in Rabat with Sheikh Hamoud Mubarak Al-Sabah, President of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation of Kuwait. The primary objective of their Tuesday meeting was to forge stronger coordination between Morocco and Kuwait within the critical domain of air navigation.
Convening on the sidelines of the 29th General Assembly session of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization, hosted in Morocco, both delegations meticulously reviewed strategies to bolster the safety and security protocols governing air navigation. They also dedicated significant attention to identifying avenues for expanding robust bilateral cooperation across the aviation sector.
Minister Kayouh conveyed that this high-level engagement served as an opportune moment to reaffirm the enduring strength of historical relations between the two nations. A central point of deliberation, he elaborated, involved the re-establishment of direct air connectivity between Kuwait and Casablanca. Kayouh confirmed Royal Air Maroc’s firm commitment to expedite the relaunch of this vital route as soon as its new fleet of long-haul aircraft becomes operational.
For his part, Sheikh Hamoud Mubarak Al-Sabah confirmed that discussions also encompassed plans to significantly increase air traffic volumes between Kuwait and Morocco. This strategic foresight is directly linked to the upcoming 2030 FIFA World Cup, which the Kingdom will co-host alongside Spain and Portugal, anticipating a substantial surge in tourist arrivals, both for Morocco and the wider Gulf region.
The proceedings of this significant session culminated with the election of new members to the Organization’s principal bodies for the 2026-2028 term, encompassing the General Assembly, the Executive Council, and various technical committees. A notable outcome was also the appointment of Khalid Cherkaoui as the new Director General of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization.
