Strengthening economic and infrastructure partnerships

The President of Madagascar’s Refondation, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, attended the 66th anniversary of Chad’s independence on August 11, 2026, in N’Djamena. The event at Place de la Nation featured a grand military parade, where President Randrianirina joined Chad’s President, Marshal Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, and Guinea-Bissau’s President, General Horta N’Tam, in uniform.
Prior to the celebrations, the two heads of state held bilateral talks focused on deepening economic and infrastructure cooperation. Randrianirina emphasized the importance of African unity, stating, « When Africans stand together and support one another, the continent thrives. »

Reviving historic bonds through collaboration

Randrianirina highlighted the need to revitalize historical ties between Madagascar and Chad, noting that despite their long-standing diplomatic relations, cooperation had waned over time. He pointed to multiple sectors where collaboration could flourish. In response, Chad’s President announced plans for an upcoming state visit to Madagascar to further strengthen bilateral ties.
Both nations share a common colonial history under French rule, adopted republican governance in 1958, and gained independence in 1960, laying a foundation for renewed partnership.
