Ivorian political shift: Laurent Gbagbo introduces new shared leadership at PPA-CI
Former Ivorian Head of State and PPA-CI Chairman Laurent Gbagbo has unveiled a major restructuring of his party’s leadership, announcing the appointment of five new key figures to share strategic responsibilities. The move, detailed in an official statement, marks a deliberate shift toward collective governance within the party.
New leadership roles and responsibilities
The newly appointed leadership team includes four vice-presidents, each entrusted with specific portfolios, alongside a newly created position: Chair of the Strategic and Political Council (CSP). This restructuring, as outlined in the communiqué, aims to enhance operational efficiency and strengthen the party’s decision-making processes.
- Assoa Adou, First Vice-President, will oversee adherence to the party’s statutes and internal regulations, ensuring alignment between the party’s structures and its founding principles.
- Oulaye Hubert, Second Vice-President, will preside over Central Committee sessions, managing internal party governance in accordance with established rules.
- Ackan Emmanuel, Third Vice-President, is tasked with energizing the party’s political activities, expanding its influence, and fostering relationships with national institutions under the guidance of the party’s leadership.
- Justin Koné Katinan, Fourth Vice-President, will steer the party’s overall policy direction, coordinating its strategic vision and overseeing government program implementation.
- Sébastien Dano Djedje has been named Chair of the CSP, assuming responsibility for the party’s strategic oversight and general administration.
A strategic move toward collective leadership
In explaining the rationale behind this reshuffle, Laurent Gbagbo emphasized the importance of shared leadership. “The strength of our party lies not in a single individual, but in the collective strength of its leaders and activists working toward a unified vision,” he stated. The new structure, he added, reflects a commitment to promoting collaboration, complementary roles, and unified action.
This leadership overhaul follows Gbagbo’s earlier announcement during the PPA-CI Renaissance Day celebrations in Songon M’Bratté on May 16, where he outlined plans to reorganize the party for improved functionality and greater impact.
