The Spanish football league has officially announced the postponement of the highly anticipated clash between Celta Vigo and Osasuna, originally scheduled for Sunday evening at 21:30 CET. This decision comes as a direct response to severe pitch damage at Balaídos stadium, home ground of Celta Vigo.
The League’s inspection team, which conducted a thorough assessment of the stadium’s playing surface throughout Wednesday, confirmed the presence of a fungus that had compromised the integrity of the turf. This unexpected development has made it impossible to host the match as planned.
A new date has been set for Thursday, August 27, when the two teams will face off at 20:30 CET. The scheduling adjustment was made in close collaboration with both clubs and the Spanish Football Federation, as the League operates with full autonomy in determining fixture changes since midway through last season.
The official statement from LaLiga emphasized the League’s commitment to ensuring the highest standards of playability and safety for all fixtures. The postponement marks the fourth match to be rescheduled from the opening matchday, which kicks off this coming Saturday. Previously affected fixtures include Valencia versus Real Betis, Real Madrid against Real Sociedad, and Barcelona’s encounter with Athletic Bilbao.
