Granit Xhaka is reportedly on the verge of joining Chelsea, a move that would see the seasoned midfielder return to a top Premier League club. Early reports on Saturday indicated that the London giants had tabled an offer of thirty million euros to secure the 33-year-old’s services. Further details emerged later that evening, confirming Xhaka has already reached a personal agreement with the Blues.

“Exclusive information: Granit Xhaka and Chelsea have already reached a verbal agreement regarding a transfer,” a prominent journalist posted on X on Saturday night. “A complete agreement has already been found on personal terms.”

Additionally, it has been confirmed that Chelsea is actively engaging in discussions with Sunderland, Xhaka’s current club. Notably, Xabi Alonso is making concerted efforts to bring Xhaka into his squad. Alonso and Xhaka share a history, having played alongside each other at Bayer Leverkusen during the 2023-2025 seasons.

Xhaka’s professional journey began at FC Basel, followed by stints at Borussia Mönchengladbach and Arsenal, before his time at Leverkusen. He joined Sunderland a year ago for fifteen million euros.

During his tenure with Sunderland, who impressed by finishing seventh in the Premier League last season, the Swiss international participated in 36 official matches. He contributed one goal and provided six assists, showcasing his influence in the midfield.

Xhaka remains under contract with Sunderland until mid-2028. His current market valuation stands at eight million euros.

The left-footed midfielder, boasting an impressive 149 international caps, is currently leading Switzerland as captain in the ongoing World Cup. He has played every single minute of the group stage, where Switzerland secured the top spot in Group B and is now set to face a third-placed team in the next round.
