Gabon and DRC forge stronger bilateral ties with landmark agreements
The Gabonese Republic and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) have taken a decisive step toward deepening their strategic partnership during an official visit to Libreville by DRC President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo.
In a high-level meeting with Gabonese Head of State General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, the two nations formalized a trio of cooperation frameworks aimed at solidifying economic, diplomatic, and administrative collaboration.
Sectoral cooperation takes center stage
The first agreement outlines a comprehensive framework for collaboration across critical sectors such as justice, healthcare, environmental conservation, and mining. A key focus of this pact is fostering local value addition in natural resource extraction, ensuring mutual economic gains.
Visa exemptions streamline official travel
The second agreement introduces reciprocal visa exemptions for holders of diplomatic and official passports. This measure is designed to expedite official travel between the two capitals, facilitating smoother exchanges between government officials and delegations.
Diplomatic consultations formalized
The third agreement establishes a memorandum of understanding for regular political and diplomatic consultations between Gabon and the DRC. To ensure the effective implementation of this roadmap, a Joint Follow-up Commission will be established in the coming weeks, providing a structured mechanism for ongoing dialogue.
These accords underscore the shared commitment of both nations to strengthen institutional ties, enhance regional stability, and promote sustainable development through collaborative governance.
