French Member of the European Parliament Manon Aubry has voiced strong condemnation of the escalating crackdown on LGBT individuals in Senegal, urging immediate action from France to protect those at risk.
The French politician, representing the Left group in the European Parliament, highlighted recent legal proceedings in Senegal targeting individuals accused of ‘unnatural acts’ and alleged HIV transmission.

In a social media statement, Aubry condemned what she described as a systematic ‘persecution’ of LGBT people in Senegal, where recent legislation now imposes prison sentences of five to ten years for same-sex relations.
« Homosexuality is not a crime. Yet in Senegal, a harsh new law now criminalizes same-sex relationships with severe penalties. I stand firmly against this injustice and express my full solidarity with those suffering under this oppression, » she declared.
Aubry also extended her support to a French national currently detained in the case, calling for urgent diplomatic intervention. « I stand with the French citizen arrested in this matter. France must act swiftly to secure his release and provide asylum to Senegalese refugees fleeing this persecution, » she emphasized.
