The Constitutional Council has declared itself unable to rule on the deputy status of Ousmane Sonko, who serves as the second-highest authority in the State. This decision has triggered immediate reactions from the Front for the Defense of Democracy and the Republic (FDR), which issued a statement addressing the matter.

The coalition views the Council’s declaration of incompetence as inconsequential to the illegality they denounce, describing it as an outright forfaiture. According to the FDR, every citizen bears a responsibility to oppose this situation, which they consider a breach of both moral integrity and the public good.

The Conference of Leaders of the FDR has reaffirmed its commitment to take all lawful actions it deems necessary to foster what it terms a “democratic alternative.” In this context, the coalition is rallying political parties, civil society, trade unions, and youth groups to unite and form a broad front dedicated to restoring democratic values.
