The President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, arrived in Libreville on Friday for a working and friendship visit, welcomed by his Gabonese counterpart Brice Clotaire Oguem Nguema to deepen bilateral ties.
Upon landing, the Congolese leader was greeted by enthusiastic crowds, creating a festive atmosphere that highlighted the warmth of the occasion.
The visit took a poignant turn at the newly renovated Léon Mba Memorial, where President Tshisekedi laid a wreath in honor of Gabon’s first president, a key figure in the country’s independence struggle. This tribute was followed by a review of Léon Mba’s life story and a solemn moment of silence, accompanied by the playing of the national anthem.
The gesture underscores a broader commitment to preserving the legacy of African leaders who shaped the continent’s emancipation. Before departing, President Tshisekedi signed the guestbook, marking his presence at this historic site.
While the Gabonese presidency’s statement did not detail the specific topics discussed during the bilateral talks, the visit itself signals a commitment to strengthening economic and diplomatic cooperation between the two nations.
