The legal complaint filed against Ousmane Sonko over his remarks concerning the holy city of Touba remains in force. This was confirmed by Serigne Makhtar Bousso, spokesperson for the complainants, who was heard this Tuesday as part of the ongoing proceedings.
The case stems from a request submitted to the public prosecutor on 14 July 2026 by Serigne Modou Maroun Niang and Serigne Mourtalla Bousso. The two men, who identify themselves as grandsons of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, accuse the president of the National Assembly of making statements during the inauguration of Pastef’s headquarters in Mbacké. Sonko is said to have suggested that illicit funds had entered the holy city of Touba.
The complainants argue that such declarations could tarnish the honour and reputation of Touba, a city founded by Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba on principles of religious devotion and integrity. They are calling on the author of the remarks to clarify their meaning and provide evidence to support them. Serigne Makhtar Bousso reiterated this demand, insisting that full transparency is needed regarding the statements targeting the religious city.
