The Chadian Vice-Prime Minister in charge of Territorial Administration, Limane Mahamat, has been on an official visit to Moundou since May 19, 2026, to oversee and evaluate territorial governance in the region.

The two-day working session, held from May 20 to 21 at the headquarters of the Western Logone Provincial Council, brought together key regional leaders. Among them were the government delegates from southern provinces, prefects, urban mayors, provincial council presidents, as well as national deputies and senators.

At the opening ceremony, Dago Yacoub, the government delegate for Western Logone, extended a warm welcome to the delegation from N’Djamena. He stressed that this gathering would help officials gain deeper insight into local realities and prioritize the needs of the population. “This mission allows the vice-premier minister to experience firsthand the challenges faced by communities, enabling targeted solutions to be developed,” he emphasized.

During his address, Limane Mahamat highlighted the critical economic role of the southern region, describing it as the “country’s breadbasket” due to its vital contribution to food security. He also addressed pressing security concerns affecting southern provinces, including farmer-herder conflicts, intercommunal tensions, and illegal arms trafficking. These issues, he noted, undermine social cohesion and deepen divisions within communities.

The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening local governance and enhancing collaboration between central authorities and regional administrations.
