Chad honours next generation of GEMIA military children
The GEMIA celebrated the induction of its 6th cohort of Enfants de Troupe while recognizing top-performing cadets in a high-profile ceremony attended by military and civilian leaders.
The GEMIA Interarmées Military Schools Grouping (GEMIA) marked a significant milestone today with a dual ceremony celebrating the commissioning of its sixth cohort of Enfants de Troupe and honouring outstanding cadets. The event unfolded under Chad’s skies, witnessed by top military and civilian officials, including General of Division Hisseine Abderamane Haggar and the Deputy Chief of General Staff, Yangmmargue Beh Félix.
The ceremony brought together generals, officers, defence attachés from allied nations, N’Djamena’s mayor, the Sultan of the city’s first arrondissement, proud parents, and former Enfants de Troupe—all gathered to witness the transformation of 76 young cadets who entered training on 6 October 2025.
Through a rigorous initiation period known as bahutage, these cadets developed unbreakable bonds, discipline, and resilience far from their families. “Today, they shed the label of ‘rookies’ to fully embrace their role as Enfants de Troupe,” declared the commanding officer, underscoring their metamorphosis into disciplined future leaders.
Honouring excellence and discipline
In his address, the commander echoed the vision of President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno: “The future of Chad is built in its schools.” This principle guides the Enfants de Troupe School, whose motto “Learn to build better” encapsulates its core values: honour, discipline, and excellence.
The ceremony also celebrated top performers across academic, leadership, and sports categories. The general commended the winners, urging them to sustain their momentum while inspiring others. He extended a call to partners and the Association of Former Enfants de Troupe to collaborate in elevating the institution to national prominence.
Closing the event, he extended warm holiday wishes to all staff and cadets, expressing gratitude to parents for their vital role in shaping the nation’s future leaders.
